Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

DualWeather is developed and operated by an individual developer based in Texas, United States. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled — both within the app and on this website.

If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us via the contact form on this website.

Our Core Commitment

We do not sell your data. Any data collected by DualWeather is used solely for the purposes of providing the app's functionality and experience. We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties for commercial purposes. We do not engage in cross-context behavioural advertising.

What the App Collects

DualWeather collects only the minimum data necessary to provide its features:

  • Location data — to retrieve weather information for your area (see below)
  • Saved locations — stored on your device to display weather for places you choose
  • Notification preferences — stored on your device to deliver the weather alerts you configure

DualWeather does not collect personal profiles, browsing history, contacts, photos, or any data unrelated to providing weather information. We do not use cookies or tracking technologies within the app.

Location Data

DualWeather requests access to your device's location in order to provide accurate weather information for where you are. Your location data is used exclusively for retrieving weather data and is never used for tracking, profiling, advertising, or any other purpose.

Location data is sent directly to the weather data provider to fulfil your weather request. It is not stored on our servers and is not logged or retained by us in any form.

When background location access is enabled (for notifications or widget updates), your device periodically sends your location to the relevant weather data provider to check for weather changes. This happens on-device — your location is not transmitted to or stored on any server controlled by DualWeather.

Under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), precise geolocation is considered sensitive personal data. We want to be clear: we do not sell, share, or retain your location data. It is used transiently and exclusively for weather data retrieval.

Notifications

If you enable weather notifications, DualWeather uses your device's location or your saved locations to retrieve weather data and generate alerts locally on your device. Notification preferences and schedules are stored on your device only.

Personality-driven notification content is generated on your device using local processing. No personal data, location data, or weather preferences are sent to external AI services for this purpose.

Widgets

DualWeather offers home screen widgets on both Apple and Android platforms. Widgets periodically refresh weather data using your device's location or saved locations. This data retrieval follows the same process described in the Location Data section — your location is sent directly to the weather data provider and is not stored by us.

Cross-Device Sync

DualWeather offers an optional feature to sync your settings, saved locations, and preferences across your devices. On Android, this feature is opt-in and disabled by default. On Apple devices, sync is enabled by default when iCloud is available, but can be turned off at any time in the app's settings. You are always in control of whether sync is active.

On Apple devices, sync uses iCloud (CloudKit), and your data is stored in your personal iCloud account. On Android devices, sync uses Google Drive's app data folder, and your data is stored in your personal Google account. In both cases, the synced data is tied to your own account and is accessible only to you.

The DualWeather developer has no access to your synced data. We cannot read, view, or retrieve any data stored in your iCloud or Google Drive account through this feature. The sync operates entirely between your devices and your personal cloud account.

The data synced includes your saved locations, app preferences (such as temperature unit, notification settings, and personality selection), and notification dismissal states. No weather data, personal information, or usage analytics are included in the sync.

Weather Data Providers

To deliver weather information, DualWeather uses the following third-party data providers depending on your platform:

  • Apple WeatherKit — used on Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro). Weather requests are handled by Apple's services. See Apple's privacy policy.
  • Google Weather API — used on Android devices for current conditions, hourly, and daily forecasts. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Visual Crossing — used on Android devices for historical weather data and climate normals. See Visual Crossing's privacy policy.

Your location coordinates are sent to these providers solely to retrieve weather data. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies for details on how they handle requests.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

DualWeather may collect anonymous diagnostic and crash data through platform-provided mechanisms (such as Apple's App Analytics or Google's Android Vitals). This data is anonymised and aggregated by the platform before it reaches us. It does not contain personal information and is used solely to identify and fix bugs or performance issues.

Where built-in bug reporting mechanisms are available within the app, only the data required for diagnosis of the reported issue is shared with the developers. This information is used for the sole purpose of resolving application issues and is not used for any other purpose. Bug reports are reviewed, actioned, and then discarded.

Website Data Collection

When you sign up for the DualWeather beta programme, we collect your first name, last name, and email address. When you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message content.

Your website information is used exclusively for:

  • Sending beta testing invitations via Apple TestFlight or Google Play
  • Communicating updates on the app's development and release
  • Responding to your contact form messages

This data is not used for marketing, advertising, analytics profiling, or any purpose beyond what is listed above.

How We Store Website Data

All personal data collected through this website (names and email addresses) is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption. Email addresses are additionally hashed using SHA-256 for duplicate detection, ensuring we never store plaintext emails in the lookup index.

Third-Party Services (Website)

This website uses:

  • Cloudflare Turnstile — for bot protection on forms. Cloudflare may process your IP address for verification purposes. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Apple TestFlight — if you are invited to the Apple beta, Apple processes your information under their own privacy policies. See Apple's privacy policy.
  • Google Play — if you are invited to the Android beta, Google processes your information under their own privacy policies. See Google's privacy policy.

Data Retention

App data: Weather data and saved locations are stored locally on your device and can be deleted at any time by removing the app. No app data is retained on our servers.

Beta signup data: Retained only for as long as needed for testing and development communication. Once the beta programme concludes, all signup data will be permanently deleted.

Contact form messages: Retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry, then deleted.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encryption at rest for all personal data stored on our servers. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
